Many technical issues that you can encounter with a game on your console can be resolved with some simple troubleshooting. We've included below a number of steps that you can follow for the most recent consoles.
Xbox One
Clearing your console's cache:
- Power off your Xbox One.
- Disconnect your console from the power outlet.
- Wait about 30 seconds. The light on your console's power brick should turn off during this time.
- Plug your console back in and power it back on.
Reinstalling a game:
- From your Dashboard, select "My Games & Apps".
- Under the Games tab, highlight the game you'd like to re-install, then press the Menu (or Start) button.
- Select "Uninstall game".
- To reinstall the game:
4.1. For the digital version, head back to the "My Games & Apps". In the "Ready to install" field, find your game and select "Install".
4.2. For the physical version, insert the disc in your console, and follow the installation prompt.
Note: If any updates are available, please be sure to update the game before you launch it!
PlayStation 4
Clearing your console's cache:
- Turn off your PlayStation 4.
- Wait for 30 seconds.
- Turn your console back on.
Reinstalling a game:
- Open your Settings menu, followed by Storage.
- Select System Storage or Extended Store if the game is installed on an external hard drive.
- Select Applications, press the Options button, then Delete.
- Select the game you'd like to reinstall from the list, and then press the Delete button once again.
- To re-install the game:
5.1. For the digital version, head into your Library, and select the "Purchased" folder. Select the game you'd like to install and then press on "Download".
5.2. For the physical disc, insert the disc and the installation should begin immediately.
Note: If any updates are available, please be sure to update the game before you launch it!
Rebuilding your console's database:
Note: This step will NOT erase any of your data.
- Turn off your PlayStation 4.
- Connect your controller directly to your console using the USB cable.
- Press and hold and power button on your console until you hear the second beep. It should happen roughly 7 seconds after the first one occurs.
- Select the Rebuild Database function from this list. This process can take a bit of time.
